Memo laid down in the master bedroom of his two-story Juárez home and closed his eyes. If only Galilea was out of jail, she could be there with him now, and he wouldn’t have to be so alone. He picked up his cell and dialed Gilberto.

“Gil, what are you doing?”

“Screwing, until you called anyway. What’s up?”

“You go without me tomorrow to Cuauhtémoc,” Memo said. “I’ve got some business to take care of.”

“Are you sure you don’t need my help?”

“Yeah. Just check on your sister.”

“I’ll have someone take you the truck tomorrow morning.”

“Make it early, Gilberto. I’ve got plans.”

“It’s three in the morning. How early do you need it?”

“Just have them get it here by eight. And call me when you get to Cuauhtemoc.”

“Will do.” They hung up, and Memo rolled onto his side.

All night, Memo thought about how he could get Galilea out of jail. He thought about paying the prison director, the guards, judges, everyone involved. It would cost a lot of money, and many of those involved would probably try to get more from him later. He opted to simply pay the guards off. The guards would have few resources to go after Memo for more money later, and would be easily dismayed because of their relatively little influence within the government. Satisfied with his conclusion, Memo finally slept.
